- It's not by chance Stanford chose Pi day to send Stegner rejections. Pi is an irrational number, and so was my decision to blow $$ on a three month wait for a form rejection. The argument that programs can't send out individualized emails--even if it's only a sentence or two, because volume of applicants is absurd. We need to expect more from programs. When Stanford calls me, requesting a reading of my first book, I will make them wait 12 weeks for a response before sending them a generic form rejection. I'm not bitter; I'm contemptuous.
