- Dear applicant: I write to inform you that you are on our "waitlist" for admission to the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Department of Philosophy. Our committee was very impressed with your qualifications. Please understand that a particularly bad financial condition prevents us from offering admission to as many students as we would like, given the quality of our applicants. As a consequence we are not yet in a position to offer formal acceptance. We may still do so depending on our financial means and our enrollment needs, in which case you could expect to hear from us within a month or so.
