- No interview, and to be honest, I didn't stand a chance. Contacting supervisors beforehand was (and is) recommended, so I had established contact with a PI in Sep '25, who asked me to check in again in Q1 '26 for possible PhD and/or MSc by Research positions (I am in my final year of undergrad). I followed up with them twice in early Jan '26 (since the deadline was Jan 15), but didn't get a response. I knew it was a lost cause because I could see on LinkedIn that they were deeply, DEEPLY invested in industrial research, consulting, and other roles outside of academia. It's not a bad thing, but it certainly is worth keeping in mind. I applied anyway since I had an excellent fit with their research directions and had already sent TOEFL/GRE scores to the program. This rejection was always coming. Anyway, I have accepted another top-tier offer from elsewhere, so it doesn't matter anymore. But to anyone reading this: please do not, DO NOT apply to NUS ECE without explicit PI interest, especially if you're thinking of doing so straight out of undergrad.
