- Just wanted to send a friendly message to everyone! I am an adjunct professor and I got into Phd at Marquette last year but declined. This cycle was HORRIBLE! most schools are only accepting 2 people. The funding is bad and department's are moving away from political research as well. I did not get in anywhere this year. Please do not take it as a reflection of your worth, academia is BRUTAL. you could do all the conferences, hard work, be an amazing theorist or writer and still not get in because of university politics. Best of luck everyone
