- I'm writing to let you know that we are not able to offer you admission to Lehigh's graduate program in English this year. We had a particularly competitive admissions pool, with 119 applications submitted for only 9 spots. This means, in short, that we had many more qualified applicants than we were able to accept. We hope that you do not see this decision as a reflection of your strengths as a student and scholar. A number of factors go into making admissions decisions, including the balance of M.A. to Ph.D. students and the distribution of admitted students across literary periods and genres, and often a stellar application simply is not a fit for our department's needs in a particular year. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to read your work, and we wish you the best of luck in your future academic pursuits.
